Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli was seen with experienced pacer Mohammed Shami‘s family after the Rohit Sharma-led team defeated New Zealand by four wickets to claim the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at Dubai International Stadium. Shami, who returned to international cricket just before the tournament, took nine wickets in five matches.
A clip of Shami introducing his mother, Anjum Ara, to Virat is going viral on social media. Kohli, who is famous for his aggressive play, bowed down respectfully and touched Shami’s mother’s feet in order to ask for her blessings. He also clicked photos with the pacer’s family. Here is the clip.

Rohit Sharma-led India remained undefeated throughout the tournament. In the group stage, they secured victories against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand, followed by a win over Australia in the semifinal before facing New Zealand in the final. After India’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, Kohli praised the young players who took part in the tournament and had the opportunity to share the dressing room with the batting legend.
“It’s been amazing, we wanted to bounce back after a tough Australia tour. Lovely playing with a bunch of amazing youngsters. They’re stepping up and taking India in the right direction. When you leave, you want to leave in a better position. So many impactful knocks (Shubman) Gill, Shreyas (Iyer), Rahul have played. The team is in good hands,” said Kohli.
It was India’s fourth straight ICC final within a span of less than two years, with the Rohit Sharma-captained team claiming their second consecutive ICC title after last year’s T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados. It was Kohli’s fourth ICC title, along with captain Rohit Sharma, and they are now the most successful Indian cricketers after great skipper MS Dhoni in terms of ICC trophies.
