In a big boost for Delhi Capitals, their vice-captain Faf du Plessis has recovered from his groin injury and is fit to play in the upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Du Plessis had been sidelined for the last few games but will now take the field against his former team at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
“I think he’s available tomorrow, from what I understand. He should be available for selection,” Fraser-McGurk said during the pre-match press conference.
Du Plessis’ last match for DC was against RCB on April 10, where he played as an impact player but got out for a single-digit score. Before that, he scored 29 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and followed it up with a half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This will be Du Plessis first game at DC’s original home ground. His return could mean Karun Nair will have to give up his opening spot, with Abhishek Porel likely to open alongside the South African. Nair may bat at No. 3 or No. 4, depending on the match-ups.
Faf du Plessis Injury Update: Set to Return Against RCB
According to reports, du Plessis also batted in the nets on Saturday and is expected to return to action in the match against RCB.
The last time DC and RCB faced off in Bengaluru, the Axar Patel-led team won by six wickets. In a chase of 164, DC’s top order faltered, but Rahul remained unbeaten on 93 off 53 balls, guiding his team home with 13 balls to spare. He received support from Tristan Stubbs, who scored 38 runs from 23 balls. Meanwhile, the young Australian opener spoke about trusting his process after a tough first half with the bat. It is unlikely, however, that he will feature in the upcoming match against RCB.
“It’s not great this year, but you can’t be too focused on the results and outcomes in this game, otherwise, you just won’t get anywhere. You’ve just got to keep trusting the process, backing your strengths, and working on your weaknesses. Hopefully, one day it turns around, and you can kick-start again. That’s the game. It’s 20-20 cricket,” Fraser said.
