BCCI Reaffirms Rohit Sharma as Test Captain for England Series After CT Triumph- IPL

BCCI Reaffirms Rohit Sharma as Test Captain for England Series After CT TriumphRohit Sharma is likely to continue as India’s Test captain for the five-match series in England this June. After leading the team to a Champions Trophy win, the BCCI and the national selectors are confident in Rohit’s leadership for another big overseas tour, according to a report from The Indian Express.

There’s been a lot of chatter about Rohit’s future in Test cricket, especially after he struggled in the home series and had a rough time in Australia. His decision to step down from the final Test in Sydney had only intensified discussions about a potential transition in leadership. But India’s big win in Dubai seems to have settled things for now, keeping him secure as the leader.

“He has shown what he can do. Every stakeholder feels that he is the right candidate to lead the Indian side for the tour of England. Rohit too has expressed his eagerness to keep playing red-ball cricket,” a source told The Indian Express.

Rohit hasn’t shared his long-term plans yet, but he’s clearly enjoying his current role in the team. After India’s big win over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final, he brushed off any talk about retiring soon.

When asked about playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup, the Indian captain said he’s keeping his options open.

“Right now, I’m playing really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice,” he told the ICC.

“It’s something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there’s so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don’t want to leave this team. The way we are playing at this point in time, there is so much joy, so much fun to play with all of them,” Rohit added.

There were a lot of reports during India’s tour of Australia about tensions in the dressing room, especially after Rohit Sharma decided to sit out the final Test. However, India’s victory in the Champions Trophy seems to have calmed those rumors.

Rohit has been struggling with the bat lately his highest score in the Australia series was just 10, and his last half-century came back in October 2024 against New Zealand. Despite the rough patch, Rohit remains confident that he can find his form again.

“There is no guarantee that runs won’t come five or two months down the line. I have seen a lot of cricket. Life changes every second, every minute, every day. I have confidence in myself that things can change, but at the same time I have to be realistic as well,” he told Star Sports in January.
