The 13th edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is approaching, with six squads secured and two positions still to be determined via the qualifiers. The qualification event, scheduled to be held in Pakistan from 9 April, involving six teams will confirm the last entrants for the eight-team competition later this year in India.
Alongside Pakistan, five additional teams – Bangladesh, West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand will compete for the two remaining spots in the eight-team World Cup set to be held in India. The 50-over tournament, provisionally slated for October this year, has already secured its places for Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and hosts India.
In light of the close diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan and the recent agreement between the PCB and the BCCI to host international matches in each other’s countries, the tournament holds significant importance for India. The two boards have agreed that any international match featuring their national teams will be played in a neutral country, with the ICC acting as the impartial overseer. Team India’s Champions Trophy matches are held in Dubai.
