CSK Captain Finally Reacts to Retirement Rumours, Ends Speculation- IPL

MS Dhoni Clears Retirement Rumours, Says He's Taking It One Year at a TimeMS Dhoni, the heart and soul of Chennai Super Kings, has finally spoken about the rumours of his retirement in a recent podcast. Speculation had been growing that Dhoni might be playing his last IPL season, especially after his parents were spotted in the stands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, April 5.

During a recent match, sharp-eyed fans noticed MS Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi, seemingly telling their daughter Ziva the words “last match,” which sparked fresh rumours about Dhoni retiring. This led many to believe that the legendary cricketer might be hanging up his boots after this season. However, in a new podcast with Raj Shamani, Dhoni cleared the air and reassured his fans that he is not planning to retire at the end of this season.

MS Dhoni on His Future: “Taking It One Year at a Time”

Dhoni said he’s going to give his body about 8 months to see how it feels and if he can still handle playing when he turns 44. If everything feels okay by the time the new season starts, he’ll take it one year at a time before deciding when to retire from the game.

“No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I would play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that,” MS Dhoni said in the podcast.

Dhoni Wants to Keep Enjoying Cricket

Before IPL 2025, Dhoni said at an event that he just wants to keep enjoying playing cricket for as long as he can, depending on how things go.

“I’ve retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is just wanting to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years I will be able to play,” Dhoni said ahead of IPL 2025.

“I want to enjoy it, as I did as a child when I was in school. When I lived in a colony, 4 p.m. was sports time, so we’d go and play cricket more often than not. But if the weather doesn’t permit, we used to play football. I want to play with the same kind of innocence (but it is) easier said than done,” he added.

Stephen Fleming on Dhoni’s Future: “I Don’t Even Ask Anymore”

After Chennai’s match against Delhi Capitals, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was asked the same question by the press. Fleming had said that he did not chat to Dhoni about retirement anymore.

“I have no idea. I’m just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong. I don’t even ask [about his future] these days,” Stephen Fleming said after the match.
