CSK might face trouble in IPL 2025 as Matheesha Pathirana could miss the season due to injury. Losing him would be a big blow to their bowling attack. The Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, started their IPL 2025 season with a solid four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. But many fans were left wondering why Matheesha Pathirana wasn’t included in the playing XI for the opening match.
In a video on the ‘Cheeky Cheeka’ YouTube channel, the anchor talked about why Matheesha Pathirana missed CSK’s opening match. He mentioned that Pathirana has gone back to his old bowling action. The anchor also shared that Pathirana might be dealing with an injury and could even miss the entire season.
“He went back to his old action. Unlike CSK, to retain a player for 13 crores and not back in the first game, we have to wait and see if it is an injury problem or not. One of the news items I am getting is that he is injured and he might be out for the season. I don’t know if it is true or not. News like this is around the IPL a lot. We cannot trust any of the news until it is official news,” the anchor said.

Pathirana Benched for CSK’s Season Opener
Pathirana, a key player for CSK in recent seasons, was not in the playing XI, and CSK hasn’t explained why. They chose Noor Ahmad, Rachin Ravindra, Sam Curran, and Nathan Ellis as their four overseas players.
Khaleel Ahmed impressed with 3 wickets for 29 runs. Noor Ahmad, CSK’s ₹10 crore buy, delivered with 4 wickets for just 18 runs.
