Chennai Smashers have won Qualifier 1, and they have booked a seat in the finals. Chennai Smashers pulled off an impressive chase to defeat Lucknow Lions by 4 wickets in a high-scoring encounter. Lucknow Lions posted a competitive 118 in just 9.1 overs, thanks to explosive knocks from Harpal Saikia (28 off 8) and Vikash Singh (22 off 8). Ankit Nagar and Mahesh Keshwala led Chennai’s bowling attack, taking 3 wickets each to restrict the Lions.
In response, Chennai got off to a strong start with Abhishek Kapur (23 off 11) and Ankit Nagar (20 off 7) setting the tone. Eshaan Duggal (13* off 3) and Lakshay Kaushik (22* off 13) ensured Chennai crossed the line comfortably with 9 balls to spare.
In the Second match, a comfortable victory for Bangalore Bashers, and they advanced to the second Qualifier, where they will face Lucknow Lions. Meanwhile, Kolkata Superstars are eliminated from the tournament. Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Kolkata Superstars got off to a solid start, with their openers, Sunny Kalra (31) and Rachit Sehrawat (19), scoring rapidly. However, both openers failed to sustain their momentum for long and departed inside 5 overs. Afzal Hussain looked in sublime form but fell just 4 runs short of his fifty.
Bangalore Basher’s bowlers staged a comeback at the tail end of the innings and didn’t allow the batters to score rapidly, restricting the Superstars to 153/5 in 10 overs. Kashish Pundir and Tanush Sethi bagged a couple of wickets each for the Bashers, while Ankit Kumar celebrated a solitary wicket.
In response, Umang Sethi (23) and Ankit Kumar (18) played crucial cameos at the top, providing a solid start for the Bashers. Abhishek Malhan (51) and Zala Vanrajsinh (55) then smashed unbeaten fifties, guiding the Bashers to victory with 8 wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare. Kolkata Superstars bowlers leaked runs regularly and failed to defend 153 runs. Rachit Sehrawat and Nikhil Badeja bagged one wicket apiece for them.
In the third match, Bangalore Bashers storm their way into the finals as they beat Lucknow Lions comfortably by 6 wickets. Chasing 164, they lost their skipper on the very first ball of the innings. Umang Sethi and Ankit Kumar then combined for a 48-run stand for the second wicket before the latter threw away his wicket.
Umang Sethi then continued the onslaught and along with Zala Vanrajsinh, the duo ensured that they got their side over the line by 6 wickets. Zala Vanrajsinh played a stunning knock of 73 runs off 18 balls before getting out.
