Glenn Maxwell Fined 25% of Match Fee for Code Breach in CSK Clash, BCCI Takes Strict Action- IPL

IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell Fined 25% of Match Fee for Code Breach in CSK Clash, BCCI Takes Strict ActionThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took strict action against Punjab Kings’ batter Glenn Maxwell on Tuesday for breaking the IPL code of conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings. The game was played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. Punjab Kings won the match by 18 runs, holding on to their place in the top four of the IPL 2025 points table. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings slipped to ninth place after suffering their fourth straight defeat this season.

Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for breaking the IPL Code of Conduct.

“Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL media release read.

Article 2.2 of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials pertains to “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.”

“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” reads the rule.

Maxwell Struggles with Bat but Delivers Key Wicket Against CSK

Maxwell couldn’t do much with the bat, scoring only one run, but he made up for it by taking the important wicket of CSK opener Rachin Ravindra. His breakthrough ended a strong opening partnership that was starting to look dangerous.

The 36-year-old, bought by Punjab Kings for a big sum of ₹4.2 crore at the IPL auction, hasn’t quite lived up to expectations so far. In four matches, he has scored just 31 runs with a strike rate of 129.17. But with the ball, he’s managed to pick up three important wickets with his off-spin.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar recently criticised Punjab Kings’ all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for his disappointing start to the IPL 2025 season. Manjrekar took a sharp dig at the Australian, saying that Maxwell plays well only once in a long time, comparing his rare good performances to the appearance of Halley’s Comet, which shows up once every 75 years.

“Halley’s Comet orbits the sun and is visible from Earth once every 75 years. Just like that, Glenn Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061. It’s the same case with Maxwell in batting. Glenn Maxwell is Halley’s Comet of Cricket,” Manjrekar said on JioHotstar.
