New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips took another brilliant catch, this time to dismiss Indian batter Shubman Gill in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final in Dubai on Sunday. Mitchell Santner bowled a tossed-up delivery on off stump to Shubman Gill.
Gill attempted a cover drive but ended up handing a stunning one-handed catch to Phillips, who dived to complete the effort. India were 109/2 in 20.3 overs while chasing a target of 252 at the time of writing. The Men in Blue had already lost Virat Kohli (1), and Shreyas Iyer had joined Rohit Sharma at the crease.

Phillips had taken a similar spectacular catch to dismiss Virat Kohli when India and New Zealand faced off in the league stage in Dubai last week.
In the final, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first. Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53) scored half-centuries, but the Blackcaps were limited to 251/7 in 50 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each, while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one wicket each.
India started their run chase confidently, with Gill and Rohit (76) building a solid 105-run partnership. Gill fell in the 19th over, while Michael Bracewell dismissed Kohli in the 20th over. Rohit was batting well, but Rachin Ravindra struck in the 27th over to remove the Indian captain.
Shubman Gill will end his Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with 188 runs from five matches at an average of 47. The Punjab batter started strong with an unbeaten century against Bangladesh in India’s opening game and then scored 46 against Pakistan.
