IPL 2025: GT Skipper Shubman Gill Slapped With ₹12 Lakh Fine for Slow Over-Rate Against Delhi CapitalsGujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has been fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate during their match against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 19. It was GT’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct related to over-rate rules.

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh,” the Indian Premier League (IPL) said in an official statement.

In the sweltering heat, several players struggled with cramps during the match. GT’s bowlers, especially Ishant Sharma, had a tough time and even needed medical attention during the final overs. Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel and GT’s Jos Buttler were also affected, but Buttler pushed through the tough conditions. He stayed unbeaten on 97 and played a match-winning knock, guiding GT to a seven-wicket win with four balls to spare.

This run chase marked a new milestone for Gujarat Titans it was their highest successful chase in IPL history. Before hunting down 204 against Delhi Capitals, their best was 198, which came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2023 season. It also became the highest successful chase ever recorded against DC. The previous record was shared by Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad — CSK chased 188 back in the inaugural 2008 season, while SRH matched it a decade later.

Shubman Gill Lauds Bowlers for Death Overs Comeback

After the match, Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with how the bowlers pulled things back in the final overs, especially under tough conditions. He also addressed the decision to give left-arm spinner Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore only one over, saying it was a tactical call based on the match situation and the flow of the game.

“At one point, it looked like the total was going to be 220-230. The way we pulled back, credit to the bowlers,” Shubman Gill said during the post-match presentation. “Even in the first game, chasing around 245, we were right in the game, lost by just 10 runs. We’ve been chasing well, we’ve been defending well. They were ahead in the game, with Axar batting, it was difficult to hit the fast bowlers, so we thought we’ll continue with them.”

Reflecting on his own dismissal, Gill added, “Disappointing way to get out (run-out), but we’ve got plenty of games here and hopefully I’ll get my chance. Magnificent the way Buttler and Rutherford rotated strike and those hits were tremendous. It was not just brutal hitting, it was very calculated batting it was a treat to watch. Very happy to get this win.”
