Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate during their match against Gujarat Titans on Saturday, March 29. The match ended in MI’s second consecutive defeat in IPL 2025. The fine was imposed as per the IPL’s code of conduct for maintaining a slow over-rate.
Gujarat Titans put up a strong total of 196 runs on the black soil pitch in Ahmedabad. In response, Mumbai Indians struggled to keep up with the chase and eventually fell short by 36 runs. With this win, Gujarat secured their first victory of the season.
Hardik Pandya Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate
After the match, the IPL issued a statement confirming that the MI captain was fined for a slow over-rate, as it was the team’s first offence of the season.
“Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 9 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.”
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 12 lakhs,” read the statement from IPL.
Hardik’s Heated Exchange with Sai Kishore
Hardik was back in the team for this match after missing one game last season due to a slow over-rate penalty. However, before this season began, the IPL removed the rule that banned captains for slow over-rates.
Hardik returned to his old home ground, and it turned out to be quite an eventful match. During the second innings, the MI captain got into a heated exchange with GT’s Sai Kishore. The two players had a tense face-off, locking eyes in an intense staredown.
The umpires stepped in before things got out of hand, and they quickly settled the situation. After the match, both men were seen laughing together, and Kishore said it was all in good fun.
“He’s a good friend of mine, inside the field it should be like that, but we don’t take things personally,” Sai Kishore told the broadcaster.
