Harry Brook Named England’s New T20I Captain; Ben Stokes Set to Lead ODI- IPL

Harry Brook Named England's New T20I Captain; Ben Stokes Set to Lead ODIWhile IPL 2025 is currently in full swing, a major update is coming from England’s cricket camp. According to a report by The Telegraph UK, Harry Brook is expected to become the new captain of England’s T20 team.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes is also in the race for the ODI captaincy. Both Brook and Stokes are being considered for leadership roles after England’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy 2025. Following that disappointing campaign, Jos Buttler stepped down as captain of England’s white-ball teams.

Harry Brook Skipped IPL 2025 for England

Harry Brook skipped IPL 2025 to focus on his home team. He has been a regular across all formats for England and was also the vice-captain during Buttler’s captaincy. He did not perform well during the India tour and also in the Champions Trophy.

It seems almost clear now that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will name Harry Brook as their T20 captain ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup in India. As for the ODI captaincy, both Brook and Stokes are in the mix. If Brook gets both roles, it could be a lot of pressure on him as he already plays all three formats.

Ben Stokes in Line for ODI Captaincy

Before handing over the captaincy to England’s strong all-rounder and Test format captain Ben Stokes, the ECB will have to consider his fitness. He is currently recovering from a hamstring injury. He has to participate in an important Test series against India and Australia this year. Stokes’ performance in both these series will matter a lot for the team and his career. In such a situation, he is also being discussed for the ODI captaincy.
