IPL 2025 Playoff Qualification Scenarios Explained: Team-wise Qualification Breakdown- IPL

IPL 2025 Playoff Qualification Scenarios

All ten teams now have a clearer picture of where they stand as IPL 2025 hits the halfway mark. With over half the matches done, the fight for a playoff spot is hotter than ever. Every game really matters in the second half, since most teams are neck-and-neck on the points table. Hence, besides victories, the Net Run Rate (NRR) is set to play a pivotal role in determining which quartet of teams progresses to the playoffs. In this article, we’ll explore the IPL 2025 Playoff Qualification Scenarios and break down what each team needs to do to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

GT sit atop the table with 12 points from eight matches and a healthy NRR of +1.104. Six games remain, so picking up just two more wins should all but seal their spot in the playoffs. Their strong run rate cushion means even a slip here and there won’t hurt too much.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC trail just behind on 12 points as well, holding an NRR of +0.657. Like GT, they’ve got six fixtures left. If they can notch up two more victories, their positive run rate ought to keep them safe for the top four.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

RCB are in a strong position with six wins from nine matches. To ensure a playoff spot, they need to win three of their remaining five games. If they do, they’ll secure their place without depending on other teams’ outcomes.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai Indians are currently in fourth place with five wins from their last nine games. Their NRR is a solid +0.673. To improve their chances of making the playoffs MI must win at least three of their remaining five matches.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Lucknow Super Giants are in sixth place, also with five wins from their last nine matches. Their NRR is slightly negative at -0.054. LSG will need to win at least three of their final five games to strengthen their playoff hopes.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR have won only three of their eight matches and are ranked seventh. Despite their poor start, their positive NRR of +0.212 keeps their playoff hopes alive. To stand a better chance, they need to win at least five of their last six games and hope some results go in their favor.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH’s victory over CSK isn’t enough to guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. With many teams likely finishing with similar points, SRH needs to win by big margins to improve their NRR. They still have a chance aiming for 16 points by the end of the league stage.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR are in a tough spot with only two wins from eight games, sitting near the bottom of the points table in ninth. Their negative NRR makes things harder, but if they win their next five matches and get some lucky results they might still have a shot at qualifying.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK are almost out of the playoffs race. They are still mathematically in it, but with four straight defeats at home, they’re at the bottom of the table with a poor NRR of -1.302. To qualify, they’d need to win all their remaining games and hope many other results go their way, which is very unlikely. Even if they get 14 points, it’s a tough ask, as only RCB managed to qualify with 14 points in 2024.
