Gujarat Titans fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. This occurred during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday night.
“Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL said in a media release on Monday morning.
The article 2.2 is part of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and deals with the “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.”
“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” reads the rule.
A Tough Night for Ishant
It was a tough day for Ishant Sharma on the field. He bowled his full quota of four overs but couldn’t pick up a single wicket and gave away 53 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a total of 152 for 8, which was a bit below what they would’ve hoped for. A few small but important partnerships helped them reach that score.
While Ishant had a tough time, Mohammed Siraj (4 wickets for 17 runs) and Prasidh Krishna (2 wickets for 25 runs) bowled well and put pressure on the SRH batters.
GT Cruise to Victory
Gujarat Titans made an easy chase in the second innings. Their captain, Shubman Gill, played a solid knock, scoring 61 runs without getting out from just 43 balls. Thanks to his effort, the team reached the target quickly in only 16.4 overs.
With this win, Gujarat Titans climbed to second place on the points table. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped to the bottom after losing their fourth match in a row in IPL 2025.
