Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) owner Kavya Maran looked visibly upset with all-rounder Kamindu Mendis during their IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The incident happened during Match 43 of the season at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday, April 25. Her reaction, caught on camera, quickly went viral on social media.
Sunrisers Hyderabad grabbed their first-ever win at Chepauk in IPL history with a solid all-round performance. Their fast bowlers were on point, keeping things tight and holding the five-time champions to just 154 runs. Kamindu Mendis played a key role in the chase, scoring a handy 32 off 22 balls. SRH reached the target in the 19th over, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
As SRH were comfortably chasing the small target of 155 against Chennai, a frustrating moment involving Mendis during the 16th over really annoyed Kavya.

Chennai’s Noor Ahmad bowled a no-ball when Mendis was on 15 runs, giving him a free hit. But instead of making the most of it, Mendis swung hard at a tossed-up delivery outside off stump and missed it completely. The Chennai crowd had a little laugh at the moment, but once again, it was Kavya’s reaction that grabbed everyone’s attention.
The camera caught Kavya’s lively reaction, a mix of shock and disbelief. Even though Mendis missed out on the free hit, he made up for it in style later.
“Good to see a few smiles. It was pretty clinical. A couple of guys at the top looked like taking the game on. In these conditions, threw Klaasen at the top, and Nitish to finish it off,” Cummins said while speaking at the post-match presentation.
Hyderabad’s chances of making it to the playoffs are very slim now. They have just six points from nine matches, and to stay in the race, they must win all of their remaining five games and win them well to reach 16 points. Their next match is against the Gujarat Titans on May 2, and it will be played at Gujarat’s home ground.
