Ashwani Kumar returns and Andre Russell finally connects one, smashing a four past covers.

However, Russell reviews the decision, and the ball tracking shows it would have missed the stumps. Russell survives! Ashwani Kumar returns to bowl. Rinku Singh charges down the track and smashes the ball to cover for a boundary. OUT! Rinku’s aggressive approach backfires as he charges down again, only to edge it straight to deep extra cover. Rinku departs for 17 off 14 balls.
Andre Russell walks in next, greeted by a bouncer which he leaves. FOUR! Manish Pandey advances and drives the ball down the track to long off for a boundary. OUT! Pandey falls next. He misses a length ball from Ashwani and is cleaned up. Pandey’s struggle at the crease ends as he departs.
KKR 69/5 in 10 Overs – Santner Keeps It Tight
Mitchell Santner comes into the attack. Rinku Singh attempts to cut the first ball but misses the gap at point for no run. The second delivery grips and turns sharply into him, but Rinku manages a single.
Pandey then drives to deep cover for one. Rinku Singh attempts a reverse sweep, just clearing the point fielder, and adds another single. Pandey finishes the over with a punch to deep cover for one more.

Manish Pandey comes in as the Impact Player to stabilize KKR’s innings. Vignesh Puthur into the attack. Rinku Singh clips a full ball to fine leg for a single. Pandey swings at a wide one but finds short midwicket. SIX! Short ball, Pandey rocks back and hammers it over deep midwicket. He follows up with a drilled single to long on.

Hardik Pandya comes into the attack, looking to capitalize on KKR’s struggles.

Boult continues with some movement away, catching Angkrish’s outside edge for a single to point.
Iyer stays watchful, defending a couple of deliveries, before attempting to punch one through covers—no run. He finally gets some runs, heaving over point for two but doesn’t middle it.
DROPPED! A big chance missed as Iyer slices one straight to Ashwani at short third, but the debutant spills it. KKR breathes a sigh of relief!

What a start for debutant Ashwani Kumar! He bowls it wide outside off, and Rahane looks to slice it but holes out to Tilak Varma at third man. A slight fumble, but Tilak holds on.

KKR 25/2 in 3 Overs – Rahane Hooks One for Six!
Boult continues. Raghuvanshi charges down, but Boult pulls his length back guided to short third for a single.
SIX! A sharp bouncer to Rahane, who executes a controlled hook behind square for a maximum. He follows up with a drive to mid-off for a single.
Raghuvanshi pulls the last ball, but with a fielder at deep square leg, it’s only good for a couple. KKR steadying after early blows.

Deepak Chahar starts with a wide outside off. OUT! De Kock looks to drive a wide delivery but picks out the mid-off fielder. KKR loses their second wicket early!

KKR 1/1 in 1 Over – Boult Strikes Early!
Boult starts with a length delivery outside off, which de Kock drives to covers. The next ball swings away, and de Kock leans in to push it wide of mid-off for a single.
Narine clears his front leg for a big swing but fails to middle it. BOWLED! Another away-swinger, and Narine, making room, is beaten by the full delivery. KKR loses an early wicket as Boult delivers a perfect start for MI!

Who is Ashwani Kumar?
Ashwani Kumar, a 23-year-old left-arm pacer from Punjab, made his debut for Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium. He was signed for Rs. 30 lakh in the 2025 mega auction after previously being part of the Punjab Kings squad without featuring in the playing XI. Known for his death-over bowling skills Ashwani has played four T20 games for Punjab since debuting in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy taking three wickets at an economy of 8.50.
He first gained recognition in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 tournament, where he impressed with figures of 4/36 for BLV Blasters. Ashwani has also played two First-Class and four List A matches for Punjab. He is the second domestic player to debut for MI this season following Kerala’s Vignesh Puthur played against Chennai Super Kings.:
