Mumbai Cricket Association Pays Tribute to Rohit Sharma with Dedicated Stand at Wankhede- IPL

Mumbai Cricket Association Pays Tribute to Rohit Sharma with Dedicated Stand at WankhedeThe Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to name a stand at Wankhede Stadium after Rohit Sharma. This decision was made during their Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, April 15. Along with Rohit, stands will also be named in honour of former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former MCA president Sharad Pawar, to celebrate their contributions to the game and the association.

“Another key resolution passed during the AGM was the approval of the naming of stands at Wankhede Stadium, a proposal initially put forward by Mr. Milind Narvekar and seconded by Mr. Jitendra Awhad” an MCA release said.

The Divecha Pavilion Level 3 at the stadium will now be called the Rohit Sharma Stand, as announced in a recent release. The Grand Stand Level 3 will be renamed the Sharad Pawar Stand, and Level 4 will now be known as the Ajit Wadekar Stand. In a touching tribute, the MCA has also decided to rename the match-day office at the MCA Pavilion as the MCA Office Lounge, in memory of Amol Kale, the former president of the association who sadly passed away while still in office.

“The MCA remains committed to preserving the legacy of stalwarts who have made invaluable contributions to the sport while continuing its mission of cricketing excellence,” the MCA said.

“A major highlight of the meeting was the decision to increase the corpus for affiliated clubs to Rs. 75 crores, with a forward-looking plan to enhance it to Rs. 100 crores in the coming years. This significant move is aimed at strengthening grassroots infrastructure and supporting the long-term growth of cricket across the city,” the release further said.

“Today’s decisions reflect our deep respect for the pillars of Mumbai cricket and our determination to build an even stronger future. These stands and this lounge shall forever echo the legacy of those who built Mumbai’s cricketing spirit – brick by brick, run by run,” MCA president Ajinkya Naik said.
