Australian star batter Travis Head recently praised Indian captain Rohit Sharma, calling him an inspiration. Speaking to Star Sports, Head shared that even though he hasn’t had many personal interactions with Rohit, he’s picked up a lot just by watching him play. He said observing Rohit’s calmness and style on the field has taught him a lot.
The rivalry between Travis Head and Rohit Sharma really began during the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Australia defeated India, and it was Head’s brilliant century that made the biggest difference. His innings crushed Rohit’s hopes of winning the World Cup as captain and bringing the trophy home for India.
However, the rivalry is apparently only limited to fans as the two cricketers share the utmost respect for each other. Recently, Head opened up on how he considers Rohit as his role model.
Rohit Sharma’s Brave Style of Play Inspires Other Openers Like Travis Head
Travis Head, who also opens the batting like Rohit Sharma, said he really enjoys watching the way Rohit plays with courage and aggression right from the start. He praised Rohit for leading from the front over the past few years and said that Rohit’s mindset has inspired many other players to play the game with a more positive and fearless attitude.
I think learned from or inspired by watching would be Rohit. I haven’t haven’t spent like any time with him really but just by the way, he is, his actions and the way he has played, led over couple of years – I think as another opening batter – he has taken the game on, inspired few guys – led from front and has been extremely aggressive so it’s something that I have really enjoyed watching,” Head told Star Sports.
Rohit Sharma has been among the greatest openers globally, who were famous for being calm off the field and aggressive on the field. His leadership, especially during big tournaments, has also been praised by many former players and current stars.
Even though they don’t play together, Rohit’s influence clearly goes beyond just Team India.
