Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill opened up about his heated argument with the on-field umpires during their IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 2. The disagreement happened over a DRS decision, and Gill didn’t hold back while sharing what went down. The incident happened in the 14th over of SRH’s innings when the ball hit Abhishek Sharma on the boot, and Shubman Gill, along with his teammates, appealed for an LBW.
The umpire didn’t seem very interested, so GT decided to go for a DRS review. But the replay didn’t show where the ball had pitched, it only showed where it hit the pad and whether it would hit the stumps.
“There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved, and as you give your 110 per cent, there are bound to be some emotions,” said Gill.
Gujarat Titans put up a huge total of 224 for 6 after being asked to bat first. Shubman Gill led the charge with a quick 76 off just 38 balls. He got great support from Jos Buttler, who smashed 64 from 37 balls, and Sai Sudharsan, who added a handy 48 in just 23 balls.
Gill on Team’s Batting Approach: “No Set Plan, Just Playing Our Natural Game”
Talking about their strong batting performance, Gill said they didn’t really follow any set plan.
“Definitely didn’t plan that (on playing just 22 dot balls in 20 overs). The only conversation was let’s try to play the game we have been playing so far. The black soil pitch is not easy to hit sixes, but the way Sai, Jos, and I play, I think we have an understanding of how to keep the scoreboard ticking,” Gill stated.
“I don’t think we have ever had that conversation where one of us has to be there. We are all eager and hungry for runs and do what is best for the team,” he added.
