Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named a 17-member squad led by Chamari Athapaththu for the upcoming ODI series against India and South Africa, which is set to start on April 27. The team has undergone quite a few changes, with six new players coming in compared to the squad that toured New Zealand.
The Sri Lanka squad features three uncapped players — Dewmi Vihanga, Piumi Badalge, and Malki Madara. Also making a return are Hansima Karunaratne, Hasini Perera, and Inoka Ranaweera. Ud eshika Prabodhani is ruled out due to injury, while Chethana Vimukthi, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Sachini Nisansala and Imesha Dulani have been left out of the squad.
Madara the leg-spinner made her T20I debut on the New Zealand tour and had a decent start—picking up three wickets with an average of 17.66 and an economy rate of 5.38. Piumi Badalge, a 29-year-old batter is yet to make her international debut, while Dewmi Vihanga is a young talent who represented Sri Lanka’s Under-19 team and played in the 2023 Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. She’s now all set for her first call-up to the senior side.
An ODI debut could be on the horizon for 18-year-old all-rounder Rashmika Sewwandi, who recently made her T20I debut but didn’t get a chance to bat or bowl. The tri-series will kick off on April 27 with hosts Sri Lanka facing Harmanpreet Kaur-led India. Each team will play two matches against the other two sides, with the final set for May 11.
