After beating Delhi Capitals by 59 runs, Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians became the fourth team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, joining Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. The win came in a must-win game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While the venue for the playoffs is fixed, the exact matchups for the league stage finish are yet to be confirmed.
Delhi’s Playoff Hopes Crushed in One-Sided Loss
Coming back to the match, Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 73 runs, which turned out to be the key difference as Mumbai Indians crushed Delhi Capitals by 59 runs on Wednesday. His 43-ball innings, filled with seven fours and six sixes, came at a time when the team needed it most. Thanks to his effort, MI secured a strong win and grabbed the fourth and final playoff spot. Notably, the five-time champions had missed out on the playoffs last season.
Delhi Capitals came into the match with a real chance to make it to the playoffs, but things slipped away quickly. Mumbai Indians hammered 48 runs in the last two overs, turning the game in their favour. In reply, Delhi’s batting fell apart right at the start during the powerplay, and from there, it was a one-sided affair. Chasing 181, DC, who were without their regular captain Axar Patel, were bowled out for just 121 in 18.2 overs. Sameer Rizvi was the only bright spot with a fighting 39.
Grand Final Scheduled for June 3 in Ahmedabad
The first Qualifier of IPL 2025, featuring the top two teams on the points table, will be held on May 29 at the Mullanpur Cricket Ground in Punjab. The winner of this match will head straight to the final, while the loser will get another shot in Qualifier 2. The Eliminator match, involving the third and fourth-placed teams, will also take place in Mullanpur on May 30. The winner of the Eliminator will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2 on June 1 in Ahmedabad. The grand final is set for June 3 at the same venue in Ahmedabad.
