Kolkata Knight Riders put on a dominant display at Chepauk on Friday defeating Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets in their IPL 2025 face-off. The win pushed KKR up to third spot in the standings, while CSK slipped further down sitting just above Sunrisers Hyderabad at the bottom. Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans share the same points tally, but Gujarat holds the edge with a better net run rate placing them at the top of the table.
Chennai Super Kings endured another top-order collapse, registering their lowest-ever IPL total at Chepauk. The Kolkata Knight Riders bowling unit was clinical from ball one, maintaining tight lines and lengths to strangle the scoring rate. CSK was restricted to 103 for 9 at the end of their 20 overs, failing to build any meaningful partnerships. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers, returning exceptional figures of 3 for 13 in his full quota. The breakthrough came early as Moeen Ali, turning his arm over against his former side, removed Devon Conway with a clever delivery to set the tone for KKR’s dominance.
The CSK batting lineup crumbled quickly, slumping to 71 for 6 by the 15th over with wickets tumbling like nine pins. After the eighth over, they went a staggering 63 deliveries without finding the boundary. Even during the powerplay, they struggled to get going failing to clear the ropes for a single six and playing out 17 dot balls. If not for Shivam Dube’s fighting 31, CSK were staring at an even worse fate potentially being bowled out for just 79 what would’ve been their lowest total in IPL history.
The defending champions started strong, in stark contrast to the home side. Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine put together a brisk 46-run opening stand within the first four overs. But just as they looked set for a big one, Anshul Kamboj struck with the first ball of the fifth over dismissing de Kock for a quickfire 23 off 16 balls.
Despite the early breakthrough, CSK couldn’t build on the momentum. Narine kept the runs flowing, hammering 44 off just 18 balls before Noor Ahmad finally got rid of him in the eighth over. By then, KKR had already reached 85 strongly in control. The finishing touches were applied by Ajinkya Rahane and Rinku Singh calmly guided the team to victory with a massive 59 balls to spare.
