Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their strong form in IP L 2025 as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 8. Shreyas Iyer’s team won by 18 runs in a high-scoring match at the Mullanpur Stadium moving up to fourth place on the points table. Ruturaj Gaikwad led CSK in the exciting clash.
Batting first, Punjab Kings innings was led by a brilliant knock from Priyansh Arya. The young left-hander smashed the fastest century ever against CSK in IPL history reaching his hundred in just 39 balls. Shashank Singh also chipped in with a classy unbeaten 52 helping PBKS post a strong total of 219/6.
Chasing 220, Chennai Super Kings couldn’t build momentum. Key batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra got out early and Devon Conway held the innings together with a steady fifty. MS Dhoni played some big shots at the endbut CSK still fell short by 18 runs.
After their fourth loss in a row, CSK are in a tough spot sitting at ninth place on the points table with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.889. On the other hand, Punjab Kings now have six points and are among the top teams in the tournament. They also have a good NRR of +0.289.
CSK will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 11 at their home ground, Ch epauk Stadium. After that they face a key match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 14 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Punjab Kings will play their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an away match on April 12.
