Mumbai Indians have suffered a setback as young fast bowler Vignesh Puthur has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury. He made his debut earlier this year against CSK and played five matches picking up five wickets. His absence will be a big miss for MI in the upcoming games.
According to an official statement, Vignesh Puthur is unavailable due to bone stress reactions in both his shins. Mumbai Indians have brought in Raghu Sharma as his replacement. Puthur will stay with the team and focus on his recovery with support from the MI medical and fitness staff.
Raghu Sharma adds some much-needed strength to Mumbai Indians bowling lineup. The right-arm pacer has spent time in domestic cricket turning out for Punjab and Pondicherry in various formats—11 first-class games, 9 List A matches and 3 T20s. He’s made a name for himself by picking up wickets consistently including five five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket performances in first-class cricket. Just recently, he had a solid run in the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking 14 wickets in 9 matches for Punjab.
“Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Vignesh Puthur, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to injury,” the IPL said in a statement.
“Raghu Sharma, born on March 11, 1993, in Jalandhar, Punjab, is a right-arm leg-break bowler. He has represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket. In 11 first-class matches, Sharma has taken 57 wickets at an average of 19.59, with best bowling figures of 7/56. In List A cricket, he has claimed 14 wickets in 9 matches, with best figures of 4/37. He has also featured in 3 T20 matches, picking up 3 wickets. This marks Sharma’s maiden stint in the IPL. He joins MI at his base price of INR 30 lakhs from the RAPP list.”
